What makes the blue hope diamond so special?

blue hope diamondIf you have heard of the blue hope diamond, you would have definitely heard about the curse associated with it. One might wonder about what exactly defines this curse and why it is considered to be such a popular phenomenon. After all, if you were to look at the diamond, you are sure to be amazed, looking at the sheer size and the natural blue hue that it has. But, people that have had it in the past have only bad things to say about it. Currently at the Smithsonian museum, this diamond has quite a vivid past.

Before you get excited, you should know that the blue hope diamond’s curse is more or less a conjured up tale built to raise excitement surrounding this diamond. Nevertheless, it makes for an interesting read as this diamond definitely has a good number of people behind it. The origin of the tale is that the diamond was actually the eye of the goddess idol Sita, and that it was stolen from the temple. Supposedly, the former owner of the diamond drowned in the sea near Singapore. This is partly true, as a person did drown who had the same name of the owner. However, the original owner was alive and well.

This was the context used by Pierre Cartier to sell the diamond to an individual back in 1911. This diamond then exchanged a number of hands. It is said that the jewelers that dealt with the blue hope diamond were also not spared the wrath. In fact, it is said that the diamond was responsible for the suicide or destitution of jewelers like Jacques Colot, Simon Frankel, Wilhelm Fals, HendrikFals, Francois Beaulieu, Daniel Eliason, and Simon Montharides amongst others. In fact, this diamond has been blamed for the deaths or subsequent destruction of pretty much any owner that has come in contact with it.

Interestingly enough, many of the owners were either made up or had completely unrelated deaths. In fact, researchers have pointed to inconsistencies and time lapses in ownership of the blue hope diamond. Therefore, it is not possible to conclude accurately that this diamond actually killed those that owned it. It is safe to say that this diamond, although inherently brilliant, has no association to killing people or causing harm to them. However, the debate is still on whether this diamond is really cursed or if it was all just coincidences. Photos courtesy of lindaskoglund.com

Tips when buying expensive diamond engagement rings

 diamond engagement rings
Getting engaged can be one of the most joyous occasions of your life. Most people at the thought of buying expensive diamond engagement rings put off the big day until they feel they can afford the best for their love. However, did you realize that you could opt for so many types of promise rings with the amount you have by simply spending some time understanding these stones and the rings? You would have heard about your girl raving about the stone on her friend’s finger and no doubt you want her to adore the ring you get her.  Diamonds are a precious commodity that will always be a good investment so you cannot go wrong in saving up to buy a really good ring.

When you are looking at expensive diamond engagement rings, keep in mind that the ring is to be a sign of commitment and love, using up your entire emergency relief fund on this one ring is not a brilliant idea as there will be many more milestones ahead. Having an idea of the kind of ring you want, what sort of precious metal you would want, what budget, what shade of stone ( did you know pink and blue diamonds are also available?) and more will make it easier for you to figure out what you should get her.

Another problem when you are thinking of investing in expensive diamond engagement rings is in knowing the size. Most of the men don’t really know the exact finger size so it would be wise to find some moment when you can measure it or have one of her old rings with you so you do not go wrong. At the same time, you do not want to give away the big surprise, so you can fool around with a paper ring and make her feel good and you have your size and your special night at once.

When buying the ring ultimately, your goal is to get one that is right for you as a couple. Women very rarely dislike expensive jewelry and gifts but if you have one of those rare women in your life you prefer simple jewelry then don’t go overboard just because the jeweler urges you to. Keep in mind her tastes, the kind of things she wears and also something she may have admired, (it could be a hint for all you know) when buying your promise ring.
